Frequently Asked Questions

Why should you work with me?

While I am an experienced writer and media professional, my true competitive edge is my special training in the field of science communication. There are only a handful of graduate programs in the world that train people to communicate to the public about science and technology through a variety of mediums and approaches that are beyond traditional science and technical writing.

I am one the few specialists in Finland who has studied the field at a graduate level.

I also have an undergraduate university background in biology and writing, so I know how to think like a scientist and I know how to write.

I am also a Hubspot certified inbound marketer and content producer. This experience means that I can really help you not only to do great science and tech communications, but to effectively navigate the current landscape of modern marketing and communications.

Because of these unique qualifications, I am up to date and well versed with techniques and insights that are quite unique in the world of modern media.

What is science communication exactly?

It's a cutting edge field and a holistic approach to understanding how science and technology relate to human psychology and cultural values. You can think of me as a scientist, a writer, a teacher and a marketing specialist all in one. We are very concerned with accuracy, but we're not just rattling off the facts in exclusive scientific or academic language anymore, because that's alienating and uninteresting for the majority of people.

We present accurate information and keep in mind how different audiences can engage with it.

That sounds like a no brainer. However, for hundreds of years understanding science and technology has been a privilege for the elite and the highly educated.

This is partly because the institutions did not value effective communication with the public, and that elitism was even  attractive. Even those who wanted to reach out didn't really know how to relate to people outside of the institutions, because the language and way of thinking is so different.

In today's world all that is changing, and modern

science communicators are key to bridging the gap.

Access to information is for everyone because it effects us all. That modern philosophy is our key to making information accessible, and it's why we are effective in a new and special way.

Why is science communication important, and how can it help science and tech based industries?

We are experiencing the biggest boom in science and technology that the world has ever seen, but due to decades of poor communication there is a huge gap in public awareness. Bridging that gap is a key ingredient to a more enlightened society, and also essential if science and tech companies want to spread awareness and add real value for their consumers.

Professional experience and education.

Before running my own business as a science and tech writer, I had a long history of team management, PR, marketing, consultation and writing.

My formal university training is in English writing, biochemistry (bachelor's degree) and communicating science to the public (an educational master's degree).

My thesis is about how the internet and infographics are shaping the face of science.

I am Hubspot certified in both inbound and content marketing.
